Upgrading SharePoint Online – 2013

With SharePoint 2013 coming available both on premise and now being rolled out to all office 365 tenants comes the challenge of upgrading your site collections from SharePoint Online (2010) to SharePoint Online (2013) as it’s known to the public, this article will take you through how to upgrade your site collection.

 

  1. Logged on as a Site Collection Administrator navigate to your site collection page (‘http://yourtenant.sharepoint.com’)

     

    One of the very first things you will notice is that there is a red bar asking you to upgrade your site collection

     

  2. Click the ‘Go to the upgrade page now‘ which will redirect you to the Site Upgrade Page

  3. Click Upgrade this site Collection
  4. A dialog will start loading, and make sure that you are ready to upgrade to the new SharePoint, If you’re ready to upgrade click the “I’m Ready” button

     

  5. Your Site collection is now Upgrading, SharePoint provides a .txt document for its log files of any errors or warnings.

    Please Note out of the very many upgrades I have ran in the past it generally takes about 10minutes but does depend on how much data the site collection has so please be patient when upgrading.


     

    Simple your Site Collection has now been upgraded to SharePoint 2013.
